The project idea is to introduce an innovative, systematic system for collecting data on animal waste. The idea consists of two key elements. The first element entails the compilation of a list of farms, the waste quantities they produce and existing waste treatment capacities. The second element entails raising the awareness of farmers by delivering lectures about the harmfulness of uncontrolled waste disposal and greenhouse gas emissions, the health risks and harmful effects associated with contamination of ground-waters with microorganisms. A special helpline will be set up in the local communities for reporting pollution incidents, information about the source of and quantity of animal waste generated. In addition, the project envisages organizing meetings, compiling a list of producers of animal products, the quantity of animal waste and existing waste treatment facilities. The data will be used by the local government, the community, public health and veterinary services and public utility companies for the efficient planning of the safe disposal of animal waste, as well as the collection of data on waste collection sites, quantities and schedules.
